Memorial High School Reviews

I have a son who graduated, and a daughter who is a senior. Beloit Memorial has prepared my son well for the challenges that he is dealing with at the reputable 4-year college which he now attends. Because of the many AP classes that he took advantage of, the college classes that he took at Beloit College when he was a high school senior (FOR FREE!) through the Porter Scholar program, and the guidance that his dedicated teachers provided, he is thriving in college, and entered with enough credits to make him a second semester Freshman! I am confident that the diversity and 'real world' microcosm that Beloit Memorial provides will help both of my kids succeed because they learned how to make the right choices while receiving a quality education. It's too bad that the demographics/ sociographics of our community lead to some skewed scoring for BMHS.

My daughter is a sophmore at BMHS and has had a very positive experience as a student. No school or district is perfect, we do have our problems, but if your student is in school to learn, there are many opportunities available at BMHS that are not available at other high schools. The Porter Scholar program, AP classes and other available college classes combined with an excellent staff make BMHS a unique opportunity for many students.

This is my daughter's first year at BMHS and so far I am not overly impressed. The curriculum is dumbed down, even in the advanced courses and the 4-90 minute classes per day are way too long. In addition this is a rough school. I must say though that they do a good job with keeping out the drugs and weapons. Although it is great to keep the school safe with backpack and locker checks as well as cops and drug dogs roaming the halls, it is also sad that this kind of thing is so necessary at BMHS. The worst part of all though is that NO ONE ever calls back and staff gives the students and parents a run around whenever there is a question. I don't know if the staff is dumb or just lazy, but this issue is absolutely horrendous!

Over all we a re please d with BMHS. My oldest just graduated in 2007 and i have one who's a junior. They have bolth had some outstanding teachers. There are lots of 'extra stuff' that my kids have participated in like sports, music, theatre and cheer. Unfortunately this is where the school is lacking is their support of the extra programs. Usually the parents have to step in to help support the kids and I mean a lot!! The school needs to look at this and realize that the extra activities along with academics make for very well rounded students, and need to re-evalute their support and funding of some of these programs.

I am so proud to have a student at BMHS. It is an electrifying school, with tons of parent involvement. For taking in many kids with economic handicaps the school performs extremely well, and always reaches for the stars. Sports opportunities exist for my children, and they couldn't be happier. I was told that Beloit was not the place to be, but how I was deceived! I wouldn't send them to get an experience in high school anywhere else. They really have that Purple Pride.

This is a really great school. The opportunities that exist here are far greater then most schools in the nation. The current principals goal was to, 'make purple knight nation the best place to be in the world', and I think he has succeeded. I am in 11th grade and look forward to one more year.

Beloit Memorial(BMHS) is a great schoool if you ask me. My son was a 'straight A' student at HHS and has continued that at BMHS through his junior year. BMHS has allowed him to advance in math as he has the opportunity to take calculus and courses at the college(BC) because of their 4 class-block system, something he never would have had the opportunity to do at HHS. So for a school that isn't suppose to be much, it offers all the essential classes for advanced students.

Beloit Memorial is a good school if you would like a lot of rules. The whole school disrtict has too many rules. They have closed campus starting 2006 for all students, and that is really unfair for the students that are responsible and make it to class on time. Teachers don't go out of their way, once it is 3:30, they are leaving and they ain't staying. They get there at 7:55, right before the start of school, and just don't care if they meet the students at the door. Memorial doesn't give a whole lot of oppurtunity to their students. The athletic system keeps getting stricter and stricter evry year, and the school board keeps eliminating things in the name of 'budget cuts'.If you can go to another school, go to it, do not go to Beloit Memorial.
