“My son was in Synectics west since they opened. That school was absolutely amazing for him. The style of learning and the quality of the staff is so awesome. The administrator knows all of the kids personally and she, as well as the staff truly care about the children. This school is taylored for each child, There will be 'No child left behind' at this school. This school kept my very smart son challenged and for the first time, in his life, he actually enjoyed going to and being at school. Now that he is in the continuing high school, RCAA, which has the same administrator and some of the same staff, it is the same way. I am amazed that the students there go to school even when it is closed. I would encourage any parents with children that need a more unique style of learning to check it out!”

“Beloit Synectics program could work with some structure added to the program. Children are allowed to miss deadlines, and parents are notified months later. Children can show up to school late and go unnoticed. Children are told they need to work on projects 3 1/2 hours a day, but no one person holds them to that. So what happens is the parents get stuck, after working all day, hounding their children to get work done. But don't worry parents, if your child is late on projects they do not suffer any consequences. I do believe we need an alternate way of schooling, but to put a child in this program at this point is not teaching them to be responsible. I was told that this program prepares a child for college. Well in college if you are two months late on a project, you are not allowed to hand it in.”

“Synectics is for middle school students who prefer to learn in a project based, self-guided environment. Students choose a topics based on WI standards, then plan and complete projects which must meet or exceed the grade 'Proficient'. While teachers are available, they advise and consult with the students individually rather than instructing them as a group. Many children are unable to learn well in a traditional learning environment. Synectics offers a much needed alternative. Another great thing about Synectics is that it is a 'School Within a School'. There are two sites: one inside each Middle School in Beloit. This gives students the opportunity to participate in music, art, sports, and other activities and electives at the host school. The great success of this school has created demand for HS students; the Charter is expanding in the Fall of 2007 to include 9th-10th grades at a location near (with access to) BMHS.”
